The Vertical Limit Challenge surfaced a number of issues that humans face
when they choose to compete instead of working together. Here are the
critical learning points:
Collaborate = Accelerate
When working in a group, allow each person to take a role that they feel
competent in. Utilize each others strengths and your work will be
accelerated.
Share Resources
The world is abundant and resources are everywhere. However, some
people/countries have easier access to some of the more critical resources
(food, clean water, oil, healthcare...etc.). Imagine if these
people/countries focused on sharing these resources instead of controlling
or monopolizing them. World hunger could be abolished. The world's energy
crisis could be alleviated. The poorest populations could have access to
healthcare, education and more...imagine that.
Know What You Control
Most people stop trying to solve problems because they feel helpless or
incapable of making a difference. Understand that even the largest systems
have been created by people and they will be changed by people. You have
the ability to take control. Start with yourself by maintaining your
positive attitude, then enroll others to create a purposeful
collaboration. Remember to avoid complaining and to offer solutions.
Don't Compete, Just Win
When you focus on competing, you will limit your own potential. Remember
the quote, "you can't get ahead by getting even". Put your energy into
developing your abilities and perfecting your skills. When you focus on
constantly improving, you will reach an optimal level of performance.
