We used several simulation games to learn
the following lessons about winning and competing:
Don't Compete, Just Win
When you focus on competing, you will limit your own
potential. Remember the quote, "you can't get ahead by getting even".
Put your energy into developing your abilities and perfecting your
skills. When you focus on constantly improving, you will reach an
optimal level of performance.
Turning Mistakes Into Learning Experiences
The bottom line is that you can't learn without making
mistakes. So stop trying to avoid mistakes. Instead, avoid making the
same mistake twice by capturing the learning from each experience.
Short-term Goals
Set short term goals on a regular basis. Each time you
achieve one, it builds your confidence and momentum towards something
bigger.
Celebrating All Wins
Get in the habit of celebrating even the smallest
successes. Understand that each win is a key part of the larger process.
Each time you celebrate it brings energy to the team and re-affirms the
positive behaviors that contributed to the win.
Enrolling Others
Forget about doing it all by yourself. Bring people
together and let them use their strengths to improve the outcome.
