We used the ColorBlind activity to discover several critical points
about our communication skills. Leaders should do their best to
practice the following:
Be
Specific
Never assume that people know what you're talking
about. Give details to be sure.
Orientation
Get everyone on the same page by sharing your
orientation. The same problem looks different to everyone. Share
perspectives and do your best to see things form other angles.
Structure
Create a structure and a process that lets everyone know what their
role is and how to play. Structure gives people a way to interact
that promotes progress.
On Purpose
Avoid being distracted by negativity. It's easy to complain when
faced with a complex challenge. Leaders anticipate challenges and
rise above them. Avoid sarcasm and name-calling/blaming in your
communications.
